Project Details
A PhD student is needed to work on transcriptome regulation in lymphomas in the Lymphoma Genomics Group at the Institute of Oncology Research (IOR), under the direction of Professor Francesco Bertoni. The Lymphoma Genomics Group is highly skilled in researching innovative medication development and genomic and epigenetic changes in lymphoid tumors. The ideal applicant would be highly driven and interested in bioinformatics and cancer genetics.
The applicant would be required to analyse next-generation sequencing research, including single-cell sequencing investigations, to explore transcriptome and epigenome alterations in experimental and clinical lymphoma samples using cutting-edge bioinformatics methods. Work will be completed within the IOR Bioinformatics Core Unit and under the guidance of the group’s senior bioinformatician.
The PhD candidate will register in the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), which is associated with IOR, through the International PhD Programme in Cancer Biology and Oncology. IOR is associated with the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland (IOSI), an institutional member of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB) and one of the world’s lymphoma referral centres.
Required Qualifications
MSc in computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, biology or related disciplines.
The ideal applicant should be proficient in R or Matlab, have expertise with programming/scripting languages, have mathematics and statistical understanding, and have analysed next-generation sequencing data (e.g., RNA-seq, CHIP-seq, whole exome sequencing). Proficiency in the English language along with strong interpersonal and communication abilities are prerequisites. It is extremely desirable to have a foundational understanding of molecular and cell biology, molecular and experimental oncology, and associated experimental methodologies.
