Project Info
To combat serious infectious illnesses, the Duke Human Vaccine Institute (DHVI) conducts fundamental and translational research. Postdoctoral Associates are needed by DHVI to continue the battle against the HIV-1 infection. The goal of the multidisciplinary, interdepartmental DHVI is to investigate host-pathogen interactions in order to develop biologics and vaccines. A group of highly engaged researchers with backgrounds in animal medicine, virology, molecular and structural biology, animal immunology, and mucosal and systemic immunology make up DHVI.
With experience in computational and/or experimental structural biology involving protein design, molecular dynamics simulation, single particle cryo-electron microscopy, x-ray crystallography, or single-molecule FRET, they are looking for a motivated individual to join our team who is committed to studying the SARS-CoV-2 fusino protein Spike. In order to help create a widely protective coronavirus vaccine, the postdoctoral associate will independently develop and utilise computational and experimental approaches to analyse the dynamics of fusion proteins.
Activities
- Study the structure and dynamics of the SARS-CoV-2 Spike.
- Computational protein design of SARS-CoV-2 fusion protein conformation.
- Molecular simulation of SARS-CoV-2 Spike proteins to inform vaccine design.
- High-resolution structure determination via single particle cryo-electron microscopy and/or cryo-electron tomography to study SARS-CoV-2 fusion protein structure.
- Design, develop, and implement computational programs to assist with the performance of the above activities.
- Present scientific results at meetings and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
- Training in bioethics, laboratory management, and scientific writing.
- Maintain accurate laboratory documentation of experiments, including raw experimental data and laboratory notebooks.
Requirements
A PhD in bioinformatics, structural biology, computational biology, biophysics, biochemistry, or a related field is required for the role, as is a track record of significant publications in peer-reviewed journals. The candidate should have experience in a high-performance computing environment.
Deadline and Application
The deadline for this application is 31 July 2024. For more details and application, visit the official website.
