Postdoctoral Positions in Innate Immune Biology – IRB Barcelona

IRB Barcelona is looking to recruit two highly motivated Postdoctoral Researchers from the national and international community for the Innate Immune Biology group led by Dr. Stefanie Wculek.

Project Information

Hence, innate myeloid cells have to be at the right place at the right time because of their role in balancing the initiation of immune responses and organ homeostasis. Indeed, myeloid cells are present at steady state in various tissues. However, different tissues represent radically distinct milieus tailored toward the particular function of the organ. How could dendritic cells, macrophages and neutrophils survive in such dramatically different environments?

They clearly have to adapt to the distinct biochemical stresses that their resident organ imposes upon them, but how this is achieved is unknown. Furthermore, it generally remains unknown whether immune responsiveness or homeostatic functions of dendritic cells, macrophages and neutrophils are affected by their tissue-dependent modifications or their surrounding environment in their homing tissue. More importantly, such dysfunction of innate immune cells can be damaging and hinder immune defense or provoke chronic inflammation, which are hallmarks of cancer and aging.
