One of Europe’s top research universities is LMU Munich. Excellent conditions for work are available to scientists worldwide, both within their particular fields of study and in multidisciplinary networks. The LMU Faculty of Medicine’s Biomedical Centre (BMC) houses the Institute of Cardiovascular Physiology. The institute’s focus is on studying inflammation in adults and neonates. The goal of Professor Dr. Markus Sperandio’s research group is to understand the molecular processes behind immune cell trafficking during inflammation to better understand the role of immune cells in inflammatory illnesses. We have recently extended our research on this process to include the foetus and newborn, where we are examining the early life ontogeny and maturation of neutrophils.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Investigating the molecular mechanisms of inflammatory immune responses using cutting-edge bioimaging tools and respective mouse models (Pruenster et al., Nat Immunol 2023)
- Performing in vitro cell adhesion and recruitment assays with various myeloid cells (Immler et al., PNAS 2024)
- Conducting intravital microscopy experiments to uncover how immune cells traffic during immune responses (Gatsiou et al., Immunity 2023, Immler et al., Cardiovasc Res 2022)
- Collaborating with a very driven worldwide team that is eager to collaborate.
Essential Qualifications
- A doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in pharmacology, biology, biochemistry, medicine, or a similar natural scientific field
- A strong interest in contemporary imaging methods, a working grasp of bioinformatics, and cell and molecular biology.
- It is preferable to have actual expertise with imaging and working with mouse models. It is necessary to have a basic readiness to deal with laboratory animals (preclinical mouse models) in experimental settings.
- Flexibility, curiosity, responsible work ethics, organisational and team skills, and a love of research
- Good knowledge in English
