The effort expands on their earlier research indicating that variations in the community structures of the gut microbiome may impact energy extraction.

By integrating conventional faecal measures, bomb calorimetry, and cutting-edge omics technologies with a human dietary intervention trial, the GutEnergy project will examine whether variations in gut microbiome community architectures impact the excretion of food calories in faeces.
