EHS Specialist – Hazard Communication Specialist are vital to the safety and compliance of global life science operations. Illumina is currently seeking a dedicated professional to join their Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team in Bengaluru, India. This role is pivotal in supporting the Global EHS strategy for compliance and risk management through the delivery of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical management processes.

Role Overview

As an EHS Specialist – Hazard Communication Specialist, you will partner with global stakeholders to author Illumina product SDS using the SAP EHS module. You will be the technical lead for Illumina’s on-site chemical inventory and SDS Right to Know (RTK) systems, ensuring that all chemical information aligns with international regulatory standards like GHS and OSHA.

Key Responsibilities

  1. SDS Authoring: Author and maintain Illumina product Safety Data Sheets (SDS) using SAP EHS software in coordination with the Global EHS team.

  2. System Management: Support the maintenance of the SAP EHS Module, ensuring data integrity and compliance with regulatory standards.

  3. Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with business partners to collect chemical composition, hazards, and safe handling practices.

  4. Regulatory Alignment: Ensure all SDS adhere to OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) and the Globally Harmonized System (GHS).

  5. Vendor Coordination: Liaise with the Right to Know (RTK) Vendor (3E) to resolve issues and oversee system performance.

  6. Inventory & Classification: Reconcile chemical inventory records and support Dangerous Goods (DG) classifications for product safety.

  7. Training: Deliver training on SDS content, chemical safety, and hazard communication processes to site representatives.

Qualifications and Requirements

  1. Industry Experience: Proven experience in biotechnology, life sciences, or the pharmaceutical industry.

  2. Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of chemistry, toxicology, and chemical hazards.

  3. Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with SAP EHS Module or similar SDS authoring software is highly preferred.

  4. Regulations: Deep knowledge of GHS, OSHA HCS, and Dangerous Goods (DG) classifications.

  5. Project Management: Ability to manage vendor relationships and execute the transition of legacy systems.
