The Component Engineer will contribute to the design and development of Cytiva products by supporting technical improvements to existing products and components. The position focuses on electrical and electromechanical component lifecycle management, component database maintenance, PCB design support, and standardization of engineering components. The selected candidate will work within the Engineering department and Component Engineering team, reporting to the Director of Engineering. This role offers exposure to global engineering collaboration and product lifecycle activities within the life sciences and biotechnology equipment industry.
Key Responsibilities
The major responsibilities associated with the Component Engineer position include:
1. Component Lifecycle and Obsolescence Management

Verify component lifecycle status directly with manufacturers.

Conduct Bill of Materials (BOM) scrubbing and roadmap analysis.

Review Product Change Notifications (PCNs) and assess their potential impact.
-
Provide component obsolescence information to customers and relevant stakeholders.
-
Monitor component availability and support long-term product sustainability.
2. Electrical Component Engineering

Manage electrical and electromechanical components throughout their product lifecycle.
-
Support component identification, evaluation, and standardization.
-
Review electrical component specifications and engineering documentation.
-
Identify suitable alternate components using Form-Fit-Function (FFF) principles.
-
Support value engineering and component cost optimization.
3. PCB Design and ECAD Support
-
Prepare schematic drawings and PCB layouts using ECAD tools.
-
Support engineering design activities involving electrical and electronic components.
-
Review and verify component selections with subject matter experts.
-
Apply component engineering knowledge to improve product reliability and maintainability.
4. Engineering Change Management

Support Engineering Change Requests (ECR) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO).
-
Evaluate replacement components and alternate part compatibility.
-
Assist in maintaining approved component libraries.
-
Ensure component changes are appropriately documented and standardized.
5. Component Database Management

Maintain electrical and electromechanical component databases.
-
Develop component selection criteria, guidelines, and manuals.
-
Standardize component parameters and technical information.
-
Monitor emerging component technologies and industry trends.
-
Collaborate with global engineering stakeholders to maintain database quality.
